POSITION: BILINGUAL PARAEDUCATOR - CARE ROOM
(Temporary Special Assignment)

SALARY: $17.49 - $19.76 per hour
AA Degree - $.50 per hour extra/BA Degree $.75 per hour extra
SCHEDULE: 7 hours per day, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday
5 hours per day, Wednesday
180 day – work year
QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED: (Qualifications which are essential to the position)
*High School Diploma or equivalent
*Bilingual/Biliterate Spanish/English, ability to proficiently read, speak and write both Spanish and English
*Ability to develop rapport and communicate well with students, parents and staff
*Demonstrated punctuality and an excellent work attendance record
*Work within designated bounds of authority and confidentiality; ability to exercise sound judgment
*Demonstrate and model above average language skills
*Ability to follow supervisory directions and employ personal initiative when necessary
*Possess good organizational skills and be able to keep accurate records
*Possess good interpersonal skills and the abiilty to keep a positive attitude
*Possess a current First Aid Card or have the ability to obtain one
*Ability to perform basic first aid to students and use standard precautions in a health care setting
*Ability to learn and follow district and health room practices and procedures
*Ability to follow safe work practices ad procedures, including the ability to follow OSHA bloodborne pathogen standards and the ability to physically assist in an emergency
*Valid drivers license and proof of insurance
*Must have the ability to wear surgical mask, in accordance with L&I guidelines for work in this environment
DESIRED: (Qualifications which are not required, but would be useful to the position)
*Experience working with computers and software including MS Office and PowerSchool
*LPN license or work experience in health services field
*Experience working with students of diverse backgrounds
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
The Care Room Paraeducator will work under the direction of the District appointed certificated school nurse and the supervision of the Building Principal or designee. The Care Room Paraeducator will assist the school nurse in providing health services that enable students with healthcare concerns to participate safely in the educational setting. The Care Room Paraeducator will assist students and staff in the Care Room and the Heath Room during periods of student in-person attendance in the 2020 - 2021 school year. The Care Room Paraeducator will work on-site and must be willing and able to work with staff and students who may be exhibiting signs of illness. Duties include, but may not be limited to practicing Universal Precautions to prevent contact with blood or other potentially infectious materials; administer medications and care such as tube feeding and catheterization as trained by the school nurse; maintain strict confidentiaity and discretion; ongoing communication with school nurse, administrator, and other authorized staff; maintaining health logs, contact parents/guardians regarding illness; perform all other assigned job-related duties.
This position paraticipates on the building COVID team and may be assigned to call students, staff, and families regarding notifications and health screenings. Mobility, dexterity, and the ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality of medical information are essential functions of the position. Other paraeducator duties will be assigned when Care Rooms and Health Rooms are not in use.
In-district paraeducators in a regular assignment are encouraged to apply and will retain rights to their regular position per agreement with PSE.
