POSITION:                  Bilingual Speech Language Pathologist Assistant  (SLPA)

 

LOCATION:                  Booth Building 

 

EFFECTIVE DATE:       2024/2025 School Year 

 

SALARY:                    $37.76 - $39.34 per hour

                                 

 

SCHEDULE:                7 hours per day, Monday through Friday 

                                   180 day – work year 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

REQUIRED: (Qualifications which are essential to the position)

*Must possess an SLPA license from the Washington Department of Health upon start date.

*Ability to proficiently read, speak and write both Spanish and English 

*Demonstrated exemplary customer service and responsiveness 
*Ability to establish and maintain professional, cooperative, working relationships 
*Ability to communicate clearly and work effectively with staff, students and patrons 
*Must follow supervisory directions and employ personal initiative when necessary 
*Demonstrated punctuality and an excellent work attendance record 
*Must work within designated bounds of authority and confidentiality 
*Experience in working with students with disabilities or exceptional students 
*Ability to follow safe work practices and procedures 
*Must uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.  
*Must take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment,  materials and facilities.  
*Must attend in-service trainings or other meetings as required, as well as attend any training as directed by management.  
*Evidence of ability to assess and correct issues involving safety. 
*Evidence of ability to establish and maintain a tactful, cooperative and effective relationship with students, parents, staff, fellow employees and management.  
*Evidence of ability to approach assigned work professionally, working toward the common goal of teamwork, pride in service delivery and continuous improvement.  
*Must demonstrate sufficient command of the English language to communicate verbally and in writing with students, parents, district staff members and other concerned people regarding all aspects of their job-related activities.

*Must be able to use basic computer programs to maintain records, enter timecrd information and read and respond to email. 

* Complete school based medicaid billing as required. 

 

DESIRED: (Qualifications which are not required, but would be useful to the position) 

*Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in speech language/communication. 

*College or on-the-job training experience which includes speech pathology and/or audiology. 
*Experience working with students in individual and group settings.  

*Experience facilitating programs for communication disordered students.  
*Experience keeping data for IEP goals/objectives. 
*Experience working with IEP teams.  
*Experience carrying out prescribed instructional and behavioral management program.  
*Understanding of Federal and state laws pertaining to disabled students.  
*Positive evaluations and recommendations that support character and work ethic.  
*Excellent attendance, punctuality, dependability, self-disciplined, and a self-starter 
*Willingness to study materials provided by supervisory personnel, work w/consultan and/or take college classes to improve basic instructional skills. 
*Willingness to use evaluation data and constructive criticism to improve performance. 
*Record keeping and computer skills. 
*First Aid Card 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND JOB DUTIES  

  1. Provide direct therapy to students with supervision from a Speech and Language Pathologist. 
  2. Provide services to students in a variety of settings and formats. 
  3. Correctly follow specific directions from the SLP for intervention and data collection. 
  4. May be required to complete additional paperwork such as Medicaid billing documentation. 
  5. May be required to create therapy materials as requested. 
  6. Complete required paperwork with accuracy and efficiency to maintain compliance with state and school district regulations. 
  7. Perform all duties of the position within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures, including regular attendance and punctuality. 
  8. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

  • Mobility: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time, push or pull up to 50 lbs., sit, kneel and crouch, twist and bend, use hands to type, finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arm. The employee may be required to physically move quickly in an emergency or while performing student supervision duties.  
  • Sense: The employee is required to talk/hear conversations and other sounds. The employee must be able to communicate effectively in person and over the telephone. The employee is required to taste and smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, far vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.  
  • Lifting: The employee must be able to lift or move up to 50 lbs. and up to 100 lbs. with help; must also be able to lift overhead.
