POSITION:              BILINGUAL TUTOR

                                

 

LOCATION:             Parent Education Center - Henry St. Building

 

EFFECTIVE DATE:   Immediately  

 

SALARY:                  $23.27 - $24.34 per hour AA Degree

                                $24.19 - $25.32 per hour BA Degree

                                  Benefits: 

 

SCHEDULE:              8 hours per day, 4 days a week, Monday - Thursday

                                11:00 a.m.-7:30 p.m.

                                144 day-work year

                                                                                                                                        QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED: (Qualifications which are essential to the position)

*AA degree; BA preferred

*Bilingual/biliterate Spanish/English, must proficiently read, speak, and write both Spanish and English

*Must complete annual required training hours Para Certificate hours

   Annual training hours will be held June 17,18, 20 & 21

*Successful experience preparing and leading educational lesson plans for children and adult learners (parents) 

*Successful experience working with children and adult learners

*Excellent computer skills

*Strong people skills

*Ability to communicate clearly and work effectively with staff, students, and patrons

*Must work within designated bounds of authority and confidentiality

*Must follow supervisory directions and employ personal initiative when necessary

*Responsible for maintenance of accurate program records and working with supervisor to plan instruction

*Ability to establish and maintain professional, cooperative working relationships

*Demonstrated punctuality and an excellent work attendance record

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

DESIRED: (Qualifications which are not required, but would be useful to the position)

*College course work with emphasis in education

*Previous experience in classroom with teacher instruction

*College or on the job training experience as a tutor

*First aid card

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Responsible for following the schedule as designated by supervisor.
  • Instruct adult learners (parents)
  • Prepare and lead educational lesson plans for adult learners (parents) that include ESL, literacy workshops, and computer literacy classes (Based on program need)
  • Prepare and lead educational lesson plans and activities for children ages three through the 12th grade who participate at the Children's Center that include, but are not limited to math, science, reading and language arts (Based on program need)
  • Organize all Children's Center activities including those for the Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) meetings.
  • Provide individual assistance with homework when needed. 
  • Provide direction to para-educators that assist at the Children's Center
  • Lead demonstrations to students on computer applications that include, but not limited to: Internet searches, word processing, educational software.
  • Oversee and maintain classroom structure.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records.
  • Maintains professional confidentiality.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
